Instead of just referring to the terminal station on info placards, specify whether the line is east/west bound, headed towards downtown DC/MD/VA, or towards specific transfer hubs. Include this information at the top of escalators as well.
Nobody knows if Huntington, Green Belt, Ft. Totten, etc. are in DC/MD/VA who isn't very familiar with the DMV. Even experienced commuters, including myself, board trains headed in the wrong direct when we diverge from our daily commute routes. Replacing placards at key stations, or even adding laminated poster boards, would reduce congestion caused by confused tour groups who can't figure out which train to board.
